Sponsors Page

Due to the overwhelming support of all our sponsors and the hard work of the players and parents the sponsor page footer no longer had enough room to display all the ads. We have added a new page to the website that features the ads of all these sponsors. Please take a look at these proud sponsors and be sure to patronage them if you are able.

Many high school football players are consumed by X’s and O’s and the desire to win games. But for the players of the West Michigan Christian Athletic Association Patriots, the goals are different.

The Patriots are in their second full year in the Christian Football League, a 10-team league not associated with the Michigan High School Athletic Association.
Coach Mark Van Dyke has been coaching for 13 years, and is in his second season with the Patriots. The 1999 Grand Rapids Christian graduate said the CFL represents the way football should be played.
This creates an opportunity for the areas next generation that wouldn’t otherwise exist, while building the hearts, minds and bodies of everyone willing to put in all the hard work it takes to turn a dream into reality.

“Though we are a little low on the numbers (about 17) we’re still being productive and the kids are working hard. The biggest obstacle to overcome in this league is not being associated with a school. Which means lack of a weight room, players may not live very close or in the same area as others to share rides, etc. so it can be a challenge to get everyone to camps or workouts at the same time,” said Warriors head coach Mark Brimmer. “Another challenge is that we have to constantly work on keeping people informed about the league so we can add players every year, unlike a school where the kids are already there and in the system.”

Part of what keeps this league in motion is the practice space donated by the Knights of Columbus at rental hall #4090 at 8428 Davison Rd. Not only does this help the team maintain its vision of building character through athletics during the regular season, but it also allows them to host several clinics over the course of the summer break, including team camps on July 12 and 19 from 6-8 p.m. for all skill players and lineman and speed training for the entire team is on July 18, 21 and 22. The Warriors also held events on June 11, 14 and 21, Pride Week is July 25-29 and Warriors Day follows on July 30.

“Since the beginning of the CFL-MI and the Warrior team, the Knights of Columbus organization has been very generous in allowing the Warriors to use their property for practicing. The Knights wants to see young men focusing their energy in a positive Christian way,” Brimmer said. “As a new coach, our Spring session was very important and we truly got alot accomplished. We’re in the process of adding new players, and coaches through out the summer along with camps, passing league, etc. For those interested in checking out the Warriors and becoming a part of our team, we have upcoming camps. Those (ages 14-18) interested can bring cleats and participate for the day.”

In 2009 Michigan made it all the way to the CFL championship game, losing to the Detroit Westside Warriors, 28- 0. This success came in part because of the formation of a junior varsity unit as well as eight players who transfered to the team after the Heritage Christian Academy Eagles of North Branch folded on the heels of a 4-5 season in 2008.

“Our expectation for this year is to compete for the state championship again. We have to bounce back from a disappointing season last year and re-focus on working like champions, practicing like champions, and playing champions. And there is no doubt we have the talent to do it. We expect to have a fun and successful season,” said Brimmer. “The league is also focused on establishing middle school aged teams, and hopefully teaming up with upward bound for youth flag football. This is a great opportunity for any kid who otherwise may not have the chance to play football. So we encourage anyone interested, please check us out.”

Area players on the Michigan Warriors current roster include Lapeer’s Mark DeLong, Matt DeLong, Mark Gabryel, Luke Gabryel and Brayden LaPenas, Imlay City’s Michael McKee, Columbiaville’s Sawyer VanAllen, Swartz Creek’s Tyler Budd and Flint’s Andrew Denman and Dominik Neal.
M-Live: West Michigan Patriots give home-schoolers, other teens a chance to play competitive football

Although 17-year-old Steve Sears has been home-schooled since he was in
first grade, he didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to play
organized football.

The formation of the West Michigan Patriots
two years ago has given Sears and other local home-schooled athletes the
chance to experience the same type of rush felt by traditional high
school players.

Sears, a 6-foot-2, 165-pound senior running back and defensive end, began his third season with the Patriots... Read more....

http://www.mlive.com/sports/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2010/08/west_michigan_patriots_give_ho.html
Merge of Two Original CFL-MI Teams

Over the last several weeks two of the original six Christian Football
League teams (Plymouth/Canton Eagles and South Washtenaw Stallions) have
been working with the CFL board in the direction of a team merge. This
move was strategically implemented to directly combat some of the
hardships that have plagued these teams on a regular basis over the last
3 years. The new consolidated team (The Saints) will be led by the
former Stallions defensive coordinator John Jones and a blend of other
assistant coaches.

Pre-season practices and regular practices are being held at Calvary
Bible Church in Ypsilanti but the team is currently searching for a more
centralized location to hold practices.

If you have an interest in assisting, coaching, or playing for The Saints, or you know of a practice facility that is available please contact Head Coach John Jones.

Addition of a New CFL-MI Team

On Saturday, July 24th board members from the Christian Football League of Michigan and board members and coaches from the WMCAA Patriots (Grand Rapids) met to discuss the final details of the Patriots officially joining the CFL-MI. After a couple hours of healthy discussion and a question and answer period, both boards unanimously agreed to the addition of the Patriots to the league.

The CFL-MI is blessed to add such an established team into the league. Their input on a variety of fronts will assist in the furthering of God's work through the league.

To Learn more about the WMCAA Patriots please visit their website at: http://www.wmcaa.org/index.htm

Storage Containers Donated

The CFL-MI has been looking for the last several years for a permanent storage solution for equipment in the off season. After hearing of the need a local auto-parts provider donated two large shipping containers. The containers are "like new" and show very limited use. They will be retrofitted with shelving and storage solutions for the football equipment.

The league is extremely grateful and is feeling very fortunate for the generous donation.

Web Site Downtime

Why hasn't the CFL's website been working the last four days?

That is a good question; on Sunday, June 20th, our web server mistakenly deleted the Christian
Football League’s account leaving us officially offline. So when I went to www.cfl-mi.com on
Monday morning and discovered that the site was gone, I was just as surprised as you were.
Thankfully, I had backed up all of our information previous to this event. After hours of technical
phone calls and frustrating run around I was finally able to restore the website to its proper
location (with the help of close to 15 technical support agents). All records, including login
information and payment statements were never in danger of being lost or at no time were
they “exposed” or insecure. Essentially, this mishap was nothing more than a frustrating
inconvenience for the visitors of the website, and for that, I apologize. I know it was God
teaching me a lesson in humility and patience.
If you have any questions, concerns, or have any technical issues please let me know via email.

Thank you for your understanding,
Scott Hyde

Detroit Lions Camp: CFL-MI Coaches Wanted

There is a need for 15 or more Christian Football League coaches to work a
camp at Ford Field, the Ford Field, in Detroit. We have been asked by
the agent for Gosder Cherilus (OT, #77) to work the Gosder Cherilus
Football Camp that will benefit the Capuchin Soup Kitchen with the
Christian Football League of Michigan also receiving a donation.

The camp will run from 10am-2pm on Saturday, June 26th. We can
either pay you or break the donation down per team, based on
participation.

The potential for this is quite extraordinary. This could be a
regular fundraiser for the league. We can get some tremendous media
exposure. It could be an inroad to working with other Lions
players, and getting their support for our mission.

It is another example of the promise of Jesus Christ, that if
we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness... our needs will be met
(Matthew 6:33). I love when the Lord shows his faithfulness time after
time. It is not easy moving this league forward, being a very young
organization, lacking manpower and being in a tough economy. Yet we
have stayed committed to using the gift of football for ministry and His
glory, then God sends us an opportunity like this!

Please prayerfully consider helping with this, and we will get
this organized in the next couple weeks. Please let me know your
interest by June 4, spots are filling up quickly!

boyd.meyers@gmail.com

Job Openings

As we move into spring from the long winter months, it may seem as if things have been quiet with the Christian Football League of Michigan. Being that we thought we would already have registration wrapped up, in one glance, things do appear quiet. But as we take a closer look there are a number of very significant things that have taken place. And we believe we will see some good things coming to fruition this season and in future seasons. We truly are coming into a new phase for our league, which I would like to explain to you.

In the off season, there has been some significant transition. While our president will remain involved with the overall direction of the league, we will have Bill Rider and Bill Schaffer largely responsible for the day-to-day operations. To make their work successful, it will be necessary to have coordinators who will oversee that all teams are in compliance in all areas. We have asked before for help and a lot of our struggle has come because people have been unable, to help. Bottom line is we still need more hands on deck. These are good men, as are all the directors in our league, but in order to continue to improve our operation and make this our best season ever, we again have to call upon everyone involved to consider getting involved with some of the needed duties.

We are looking for 5 key people to serve as coordinators from the league interacting with each team to make sure game schedules are set with sufficient workers, concessions are properly managed, outreaches for sharing the gospel and the things of Christ are being done on a regular basis, and that each team is able to meet financial goals and able to provide for more needy families, so that we can have maximal involvement.

Would you get involved?

Let us know if you are interested in serving as our:

Outreach Coordinator

Concessions Coordinator

Game/Team Coordinator

We will be interviewing interested parents/adults interested in putting their stamp on the advancing of this league, to the glory of Christ.

Thanks for praying and considering,

Boyd Meyers -Email
